WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
Gallery
The workshops were intended to serve four main purposes:
- Formulate broad visions for the future of the
community from local residents, and identify changes needed to achieve those visions.
- Inform participants about the sustainable development
plan and the efforts of the PDC.
- Actively engage community members in the planning
process and promote ownership of the plan.
- Revive the Development Area Committees (DACs). In each DA in
Manchester
,
there was a DAC which served as an umbrella group for community organizations
and allowed community members to meet periodically to discuss planning
issues.
These groups have significant potential to aid the LSDP process
if they are revived.
In addition to providing information for the plan, the workshops
were to intended promote citizen participation and to provide a chance for community
members to interact and strengthen community relationships.
In a larger context, the workshops were meant to demonstrate to residents
the value of their opinions and their ability to affect change in their community. Additionally, with respect to the goals
of local government reform, devolution of power, and building of local capacity,
the workshops were expected to give both citizens and planners at the PDC and Parish
Council experience in the community planning process Click
